Keeping up the training

21st January 2013

It is now three weeks into the training regime and I am actually doing the two walks a week -- even in the snow (although that was hard work).

What I haven't managed to do yet is work out how anyone can actually read this blog after the first invitation to do so.  This is, therefore an experiment as I am going to remove the restricted readership and then send a few family members the blog address (do I even know what that is?!?).

I am also going to experiment downloading a picture directly from my camera (random pic -- apologies). Here goes!

15 March 2013 Still Training

There has been an hiatus with this blog as I couldn't work out how people could access it -- I know - "what a "Luddite"!  Anyway, I might be back on track.

C & I have now begun training properly - packed the rucksacks - about 20 lb weight - not sure that we can get it any lower; booked the air tickets and agreed the first two days; and, yes, we have done a little bit of actual walking!  In fact we must have done all of four miles in the snow in Derbyshire last Sunday!

We are off to do the Dales Way in two weeks - the real test before our departure!

More news when I have some.

Fitness and fatness

1st January 2013 ---Today I began training in earnest with a long walk on the Asdown Forest -- that just about covers the fitness bit.  Came home and ate pasta and chocolates so that covers the other!

Planning and Preparation

23 December 2012

Charlotte and I have been talking for months now of walking the Camino Way in the Spring of 2013, after Charlotte has retired.  We have done some planning (bought the guide book), but little serious thinking and have yet to book the plane tickets.  However, come 1 January 2013 we shall begin our training and planning proper.  Starting this blog is part of the psychological preparation as my son, Matthew drags me into the electronic 21st centuary getting me ready to keep any interested friends and family in touch with where we are and how we are coping with the walk.

31 December 2012
I have now worked out how to add specific readers to my blog readership as I don't want just anybody reading this.  Hopefully you will get an invitation to read this very brief (so far) account soon.

Tomorrow the training proper begins!

1st January 2013
Well, I've started!  9.7 miles on the Ashdown Forest and 2000ft of elevation -- very muddy and slippy but beautiful clear blue skies.  I was totally kn......d and I wasn't even carrying the pack -- Henry was.  I am seriously considering exploring the pros and cons of hiring an Himalayan sherpa!!!!

The intention is to do two of these walks a week  --- we'll see.
